Government Mandates Driving Health Care Industry's New Training Initiatives

Even before the recent Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was passed into law in March, the health care industry was readying itself for a wave of change. Last year’s economic stimulus bill included provisions for $19 billion worth of incentives for doctors and hospitals to bring their patients’ medical records online.

These incentives will prompt health care providers to increase their investment in IT systems that will enable them to create and maintain electronic medical records. In turn, these new systems — as well as new work processes and procedures — will require medical offices to retrain their staffs. As a result, the next few years could see an unprecedented need for health care industry educational materials and trainings—and kickoff a gold rush for eLearning providers.

Monarch Media a Finalist in Global Giveback Competition

LINGOs and the eLearning Guild named Monarch Media one of three finalists in the Institutional Category for the eLearning Global Giveback Competition. As part of the competition, Monarch developed an eLearning course to provide leadership orientation for Acción International, a nonprofit leader in microfinance.

According to an eLearning Guild survey conducted in 2009, 48 percent of organizations report a positive return on investment from their eLearning initiatives. Only 5 percent reported no return or negative ROI.


Spending on eLearning Growing Exponentially

A recent report by Ambient Insight found that North American academic institutions, including both K–12 and higher education buyers, accounted for 43 percent of all eLearning purchases in 2009.
