Free Your LMS
Is an Open-Source Learning Management System Like Sakai or Moodle the Right Solution for You?

eLearning in action

Today more than 40 percent of organizations use an LMS to administer, document, and report on their training and learning programs. Since its initial growth in the 1990s, the overall LMS market has been fragmented, with dozens of companies offering commercial solutions and no single platform rising to dominance.

In the past five years, however, another option has become more and more viable: open-source LMS software. In particular, the two leading open-source offerings, Sakai and Moodle, today come with rich feature sets and sufficient scalability to compete with many enterprise commercial offerings.

Finding the best and most cost-effective solution for your organization, however, is not always easy to do. To help you make the right decision, Monarch Media has written a white paper that examines Sakai and Moodle, and helps you determine whether an open-source LMS can meet your needs.

Instead, recent studies demonstrate that for motivated learners, some very different techniques can work to boost results and recall. And there's good news for online training providers — eLearning technologies and practices can correspond well to these techniques, helping learners master the material.
